Jesus Wasn’t Poor: The Biblical Blueprint to Building Wealth (And Why You Should Too)

December 23, 20255 min read

Gentlemen, let’s be real for a second.

We are all chasing success. We want to provide for our families, build a legacy, and reach our full potential. But for many men, especially those raised with a faith background, there is a silent conflict happening inside.

You want to make money, but you’ve been told it’s "the root of all evil."

You want to be successful, but you’re afraid of losing your soul in the process.

I recently sat down with Dr. Bishop Kevin Foreman on The Modern Man Podcast, and let me tell you… he brought some serious wind for our sails. Bishop Foreman is a multi-millionaire entrepreneur, author, and the man who turned a "church planter's graveyard" in Denver into a thriving multicultural movement.

He didn't pull any punches. His message? It is evil to NOT be financially empowered.

If you are ready to stop surviving and start thriving, here is the biblical blueprint to building wealth that you probably didn't hear in Sunday School.

The Myth: "Jesus Was Poor"

One of the biggest mental blocks for men is the idea that holiness equals poverty. We have this image of Jesus wandering around in rags, eating granola.

Bishop Foreman shattered this myth in the first ten minutes of our conversation.

He pointed out a simple, undeniable fact: Jesus had a treasurer.

"They were casting lots over his clothes. You don't do that over rags. He had a treasurer, Judas, who counted his money. If you got pennies, why do you need somebody whose full-time job is to count your money?" — Bishop Kevin Foreman

If the ultimate example of spirituality had a team managing his resources, why do we think we need to struggle to be "good"?

The truth is, money answers all things. It’s a tool. And if good men don’t have resources, we can’t be the answer to the problems in our communities.

The Real Enemy: It’s Not The Devil, It’s The "Inner Me"

We love to look for external enemies. We blame the economy, the government, our boss, or "the system."

But Bishop Foreman dropped a hard truth that I think every man needs to hear: You are sleeping with the enemy.

The number one thing stopping you isn't out there. It’s the "Inner Me."

It’s your self-doubt. It’s your trauma. It’s the stories you tell yourself about why you aren't good enough. Bishop shared how he had to overcome crippling shyness, a trait he developed as a child to protect himself, before he could step into his power as a speaker and leader.

Action Step: Ask yourself today, "What is the specific thought or habit that is opposing my forward progress?" That is your enemy. Identify it so you can kill it.

The "Divine Download" Business Strategy

I asked Bishop how he marries the Bible with business. How do you actually use faith to make money?

He calls it the Divine Download.

In business, we obsess over market research and data (which is important). But as men of faith, we have an unfair advantage... We have access to a strategy that goes beyond logic.

Bishop shared a story about a time his business was stagnant. He didn't just grind harder; he prayed for a strategy. He got an idea for a simple, ugly, black-and-white mailer document. It looked basic. It defied "marketing best practices."

But he sent it out, and it became the highest-converting piece of marketing in his industry.

Your spirituality isn't a liability in business; it’s your R&D department.

How to Move from Surviving to Thriving (The ABC Method)

If you feel like you’re just treading water right now, Bishop laid out a tactical framework to get unstuck. He calls it the ABC Method.

A: Assess Your Reality

You can’t get to where you’re going if you don’t know where you are. Stop lying to yourself. If your finances are a mess, admit it. If your health is slipping, own it. Be a harsh critic of your current location so you can plot a course out.

B: Build a Plan

Don't just rely on "vibes" or feelings. Feelings change. One minute you want a salad, the next you want ribs. You need a target.

Start with the end in mind. Whether it's losing 20 pounds or making your first $100k, write down the specific steps to get there.

C: Conquer Consistently

Winning is contagious. When you win in the gym, it bleeds into your business. When you win in your marriage, it bleeds into your mental health.

Stop looking for the "home run" that changes everything overnight. Instead, stack small wins every single day. Prove to yourself that you are a winner.

The Hard Truth: Nobody Is Coming To Save You

We ended the episode with a heavy question: What is the one thing that shaped your view of the world?

Bishop’s answer was chilling and empowering: "I realized nobody was coming to save me."

It reminds me of the old joke about the man drowning in the ocean. A rowboat comes, he says, "No, God will save me." A speedboat comes, "No, God will save me." A cruise ship comes, "No, God will save me."

He drowns. He gets to heaven and asks God, "Why didn't you save me?"

God says, "I sent you three boats!"

Gentlemen, the boat is here. The information is here. The podcast is here. The community is here.

God has given you the tools. Now, you have to pick them up and row.

Embrace the discomfort. Do the work.

Want to go deeper?

If this message resonated with you, don’t just read, listen. The full episode with Bishop Kevin Foreman is packed with even more wisdom on overcoming trauma and building a legacy.
